Ever notice that a lot of your peers are making the dash to other cities and you just wish there was some sort of incentive that could keep them here to experience the beauty that Detroit and the surrounding region offers? Well thanks to a group of local companies (including Quicken Loans) and entrepreneurs, this incentive is now creating a buzz in the region. Challenge Detroit, the first initiative of The Collaborative Group, is a national initiative focused on revitalizing Detroit by attracting and retaining future leaders to bring their talents to the great city of Detroit. Through this interesting fellowship, Challenge Detroit will select 30 individuals from across the United States to live, work, play, give and lead for one year in Detroit.
Here is a brief overview of what the 30 individuals will be doing:
Live: Challenge Detroit fellows will have the opportunity to live in the Riverfront, the Villages, Woodbridge, Downtown and more.
Work: Challenge Detroit fellows must complete 32 hours of work per week for one year at their host company. Such companies include DTE Energy, Compuware, Team Detroit, Quicken Loans and many more.
Play: Partnering with Detroit Passport to the Arts (DP2A), Challenge Detroit will provide an introduction to Detroit’s rich cultural scene through monthly social and cultural engagement opportunities for the fellows. The Henry Ford, the DIA and the Detroit Zoo, just name to a few, are some of the amazing cultural institutions that the fellows will be able experience.
Give: Challenge Detroit fellows will also have to participate in monthly team challenges designed to positively impact the community. They will be teaming up with local non-profits such as the United Way, Beaumont Health System and Global Detroit to encourage the improvement of the community’s education, health and well-being.
Lead: Partnering with local schools and businesses, each fellow will receive one-on-one leadership and professional development coaching to help define and develop the necessary personal and professional skills to help maintain and boost development in the region.
So if you know someone who may fit this criteria, have them head over to www.challengedetroit.org and fill out the online application. But make sure they hurry; the official deadline date is March 3rd!
